Artist’s Statement # 108

Artist’s Statement # 108 is adapted from a dialogue scene from the tragic-comedy of Franz Kafka, «Ein Hungerkünstler (A Hunger Artist)». The choice to believe in creating art means trying to believe in the value of Art-Making and in the value of an “artistic” world, fully understanding the absurd part of the reality. While the protagonist’s efforts and ambitions collapse with his life itself, the “raison d’être” of his art is revealed in comical contrast. The number “108” is the number of agonies of life in Buddhism. The image and sound are took from their original context and put outside of their intentions.
